Runners warming up prior to 2009 CFDR Fun Run

Friday, June 5, 2009
Charlottetown, PEI

This popular event, held during the DC national conference, offers exercise, socializing and fresh air, as well as an opportunity to support nutrition and dietetic research. The event takes place in the early evening and is a good way to unwind after enjoying the day's conference presentations.

The Charlottetown Fun Run/Walk began at Founders' Hall where participants enjoyed a fast paced aerobic and stretching warm-up. The picturesque route for the event, designed by Fun Run Chairperson Nancy Fong, started along the historic streets of Charlottetown, past beautiful heritage buildings, and continued on the boardwalk at the water's edge and finished back at Founders' Hall.

This year's event attracted a record 250 registrants and raised a record $25,000. All of the funds raised will be used to support dietetic and nutrition research.

8th Annual CFDR Corporate Golf Challenge

Monday, September 14, 2009
Piper’s Heath Golf Club, Trafalgar Road,
Milton, ON (just south of hwy 401)

CFDR's 8th Annual Corporate Golf Challenge was a great success, attracting support from corporate leaders and raising a net total of just over $48,000.

Thirty-eight corporations and organizations supported this popular event, either through entering foursomes, donating prizes and silent auction items or providing sponsorships. CFDR is most grateful to these companies for demonstrating their belief in the value of dietetic and nutrition research.

The tournament took place at Piper’s Heath Golf Club in Milton, Ontario, just outside of Toronto. Golfers enjoyed a sunny day on the course, a barbecue lunch on the patio and a delicious buffet dinner in the reception hall. The evening festivities were overseen by Master of Ceremonies Paul Bruhn, Country Business Manager for Nestlé Healthcare Nutrition. Paul spoke about the importance of nutrition research and the work of CFDR in his opening remarks.

Thanks to Nestlé Healthcare Nutrition (Main Event Sponsor), MarketLink Solutions (Dinner Sponsor) and all those who contributed to the success of the Corporate Golf Challenge. All of the funds raised will be used to advance CFDR’s mission:  to be the catalyst for dietetic and applied nutrition research by funding research and disseminating new knowledge in support of evidence-based decisions.

To date, the Corporate Golf Challenge has raised more than $470,000 since its inception 8 years ago. Plans are underway to top the half million dollar mark in 2010.

2008 Dietitians of Canada National Conference

Oral and Poster Research Presentations
CFDR hosted the Oral and Poster Research Presentations at the Dietitians of Canada national conference in Winnipeg in June 2008. Dietitians and other health professionals in related fields were invited to submit a request to make an oral or poster presentation during this event. CFDR Partners Breakfast

CFDR recognizes the need to reach out to our partners and corporate supporters, to provide insight into our progress and to solicit feedback from our key stakeholder groups. We have initiated a Partners Breakfast in the spring of each year as a regular communication event.

Dr. Susan Whiting was the keynote speaker at the 2008 Partners' Breakfast held on May 8, 2008. Dr. Whiting is the principal investigator on a special research project on vitamin and mineral supplementation in Canada. The project is a collaboration between CFDR and DC. View information on the research presentation by Dr. Susan Whiting.

7th Annual CFDR Corporate Golf Challenge

The 7th Annual Corporate Golf Challenge was a huge success. The event attracted more than 120 golfers to the Royal Ontario Golf Club near Milton, Ontario, for a great day of golf, a fabulous dinner and a much-enjoyed awards banquet. Best of all, nearly $60,000 was raised to support CFDR's mandate of funding practice-based nutrition and dietetic research. The event's success is due to the support of our key event sponsors (Nestlé Healthcare Nutrition, MarketLink Solutions and Coca-Cola Bottling) as well as the many corporations that registered foursomes and donated prizes and silent auction items.

4th Annual CFDR Fun Run/Walk

The CFDR Fun Run/Walk event promotes the lifestyle balance of regular physical activity along with the healthy eating that Dietitians know so well. Held during the DC national conference, the event provides an opportunity for fresh air, exercise and socializing, while highlighting dietitians' commitment to supporting nutrition research in Canada. The 4th Annual Fun Run/Walk was held on June 13, 2008 in Assiniboine Park, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Despite threats of tornadoes in the area (!) the evening was warm and comfortable; nearly 200 dietitians and other supporters walked or ran the 5 km or 10 km routes. The event raised a net total of $22,000 for nutrition and dietetic research. For more information, see the article about the Fun Run/Walk in the Summer 2008 (pdf) issue of CFDR's newsletter, Keeping in Touch.
