The CFDR Grant Funding Process

A flow chart (pdf) illustrates the process an application to CFDR follows through the submission, review and funding stages.

The application process consists of two steps:
Step 1: Letter of Intent

The deadline for receipt of Letters of Intent (LOIs) at the CFDR office is 4pm EST on September 15. The CFDR Scientific Review Committee reviews LOIs for fit with criteria listed in the Review Process section of the application guide. LOIs receiving the highest project ranking will be invited to submit a full proposal by March 1 of the following year.

Step 2: Full application and proposal

Full proposals will only be accepted from investigators invited to submit a full proposal based on their Letters of Intent.

The deadline for receipt of full applications and proposals at the CFDR office is 4 p.m. EST on March 1. The CFDR Scientific Review Committee reviews full applications for fit with criteria listed in the Review Process section of the application guide. Proposals accepted for funding are then forwarded to the CFDR Board of Directors.

Applicants are informed of the final decision by June. An announcement is made to the media and to CFDR stakeholders, including the DC membership and corporate supporters.

Funding is released upon receiving the submission of the abstract to the Canadian Inventory of Nutrition and Dietetic Associated Research (CINDAR). Ten percent of total grant funding will be withheld pending completion of the project, submission of the final report in required format and updating of project results in CINDAR.

Conflict of Interest Guidelines

To ensure that decisions for awarding grants are fair and objective, conflict of interest guidelines (pdf) have been developed.

Final Report Template

In order to facilitate the preparation of poster or oral presentations and manuscripts for publication, CFDR offers this report outline to help researchers organize their project information. This template is also an acceptable format for submission of the required final research report for a CFDR grant.
